The Russian Tsar Peter I established in 1705. a special tax on the right to shave. Courts, nobles and officials had to pay 600 rubles, foreigners in Russia 100 rubles, merchants and townspeople 60 rubles, and servants, courtiers, church ministers and others 30 rubles a year. The farmers were exempt. Such a token confirmed the payment of the tax. The taxation of the beard was abolished in Russia only in 1772. in.
